An excellent overview of the history of jazz and swing dance in a context of American society in the 1930s and 1940s -- I HIGHLY recommend this book.
**This Thing Called Swingby Christian Batchelor. ISBN 0-9530631-0-0. Apart from tracing the parallel development of swing music and swing dancing it is supposed to have a great list of dance films.
